Dual Career Officers Seminar in Maribor: Supporting Athletes Beyond the Field

From September 19–21, 2025, the city of Maribor, Slovenia hosted the 5th edition of the International Dual Career Officers (DCO) Seminar, part of the AFTERMATCH 2.0 Reload project. Organized in collaboration with local partners, the event gathered participants from across Europe, including coaches, youth workers, sports professionals and representatives of various sports organizations.

Throughout three intensive days, the seminar focused on the practical application of the Dual Career Officer model – a key innovation of the #AFTERMATCH methodology. Participants took part in interactive workshops, case studies, and training activities aimed at equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed to support athletes in balancing their sporting ambitions with education and career development.

The Maribor seminar provided a platform for:

  • Deepening understanding of the #DualCareer concept
  • Sharing best practices and local challenges
  • Strengthening cross-border cooperation in youth and sport sectors

Beyond the Classroom

One of the key strengths of the DCO Seminars is the balance between structured training and immersive learning experiences. In Maribor, participants had the chance to engage in dynamic discussions, explore real-life scenarios, and build valuable connections with peers from different countries and disciplines.

The event reaffirmed the importance of a long-term, human-centered approach to athlete development – one that recognizes sport as part of a broader personal and professional journey.

Moving Forward

The DCO Seminar in Maribor was a major step forward in the implementation of the AFTERMATCH 2.0 Reload project. With only three seminars remaining, the initiative continues to empower professionals across Europe to become active agents of change in their local communities.
